Things to Know
About Sessions
Sessions are either on at your home or on location(e.g. beach or park).
Sessions are for nuclear families only.
No other cameras are allowed at the shoot.
Lisa almost exclusively holds her sessions in the morning. Kids tend to be in their best moods earlier in the day, after breakfast. The light at that time of the day is optimal as well.
Sessions generally last between 45 minutes to 2 hours. Home shoots may last a bit longer. This allows for feedings, playing and getting to know each other.
Sessions are never rushed, with the pace set by your child.
After scheduling your shoot, please submit an agreement to our Terms & Conditions. Please submit prior to your session date.
At Home
This is Lisa’s favorite kind of sessions because they are more intimate; they capture your life as it is today. It’s the favorite toys, loved books and the themed bedroom–all part of you child’s life–that really shows who they are. There are also many areas that can be explored in your home, providing a wide variety of images to proof. Your children are also the most comfortable in their own space. Also, snacks and changes of clothing are easily at hand.
On Location
Some locations that are ideal are:
Moanalua Gardens for its open shade and beautifully manicured lawns. If a session is scheduled at the gardens, a reservation needs to be made by the family. They allow an hour and a half a session.
North Shore for beach sessions. Lisa generally shoots at a beach named Log Cabins. It is located about half a mile from Shark’s Cove. It has beautiful rolling sand and a natural reef break so the waves are manageable even in the winter. It also has some pine trees that photograph beautifully for variation.
Other locations around the island are always open for discussion.
In the event of rain, the shoot will be rescheduled.
Things to bring to a location shoot: Water and a snack that is easy to eat for little ones.
If we hold the session at Moanalua Gardens, the kids like to feed the koi in the pond. Bring some koi food for them to throw. It’s a great reward for a session well done.
Clothing
For all sessions: White or black is not optimal as they tend to be either too dark or too light. Light clothing or darker clothing will read as white or black on film.
For a park shoot: light colored, no print clothing works best. Dress casually and you may bring changes of clothing if you are unsure.
For the beach: darker clothes contrast nicely with the sand and sky. Bring along some boardshorts for the kids if you have them. Toys and other props are not needed, the interaction of the children, sand and water make for great images.
Proofs & Prints
A proofing slideshow and online proofing will be ready to view about two weeks after the session. We will setup an appointment for us to meet, usually at Lisa’s office. We will look over the proofs and talk about how to order.
I will sit down with you and help you pick out the images that would best fit your home and budget. Whatever you decide to order at the proofing session will be 20% off the retail price. If you can’t decide at the proofing, you can always order other items later at the regular price.
Please allow 2-3 weeks for prints to be ready for pick up. If custom framing is ordered order may take a little longer.
Custom prints can be made at the time of order. The price will reflect the paper print size before trim.
Matting and Framing When matting and framing photographic images you should always use acid-free mats and boards. If acid-free materiarls are not used, chemical or acid burn may occur and affect the print, causing a browns or reddish brown color. Make sure all contact with the print is acid-free.
